Blue Light Damages Retinal Cells…Sort of

Blue Light Damages Retinal Cells in Lab Study

“Whether blue light from mobile devices and digital screens induces similar toxicity levels is an unanswered question and is currently under investigation,” senior author Ajith Karunarathne, PhD, an assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Toledo, told Medscape Medical News in an email.

I think it is clear that blue light causes some effect in the eye, but the title of this article is pure clickbait. This study was done on cultured cells with intensities that do not come out of known mobile devices.

It is interesting and shows the need for more study, but make sure you read the full article before making recommendations to patients.
